Rambling across a military base in Pembrokeshire

![]() Manorbier will be a haven of peace on the tours which must be booked ahead
It is not every day that walkers get to ramble over the site of a testing range for high velocity missiles.
But then the location of this particular range is also one of the more stunning parts of Pembrokeshire.
The Ministry of Defence and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority are now offering a limited number of tours of Manorbier range. Acres of its coastal land will be open for guided visits for two afternoons in August.
Unique views
Guests will be offered information on the base's military history since 1938, geology and archaeology. There will also be a short walk led by the National Park Authority's Ranger Lynne Houlston and Archaeologist Pete Crane.
Range Commandant Major Peter Sulman said: "There are a lot of misconceptions about this place and it is a good way to show people that we are not a load of ogres behind a wire.
"It's a God given chance to see another aspect of the coast.
"The views they get from here of the Pembrokeshire coast are unique."
This year's events are on Wednesday 4 and Monday 9 August from 1300 BST. They are open to anyone aged 16 or over, but numbers are restricted so organisers are asking people to book early by calling 01646 662213. | ||
